The word order of both English and Portuguese is, at times, the same. Additionally, because many Portuguese and English words are spelled similarly and often mean the same thing, understanding some things in Portuguese can often be accomplished with little knowledge of the language or grammar, for example:

Brasília é a capital do Brasil.
Brasilia is the capital of Brazil.

A família geralmente visitam no domingo.
The family generally visits on Sunday.
