While only the Portuguese verb falar (to speak) is used as the example for the 1st conjugation, the rules contained here pertain to all regular verbs ending in -ar except irregular verbs ending in -ar. SUBJUNCTIVE MOOD (SIMPLE)
(The SUBJUNCTIVE occurs in the DEPENDENT CLAUSE of a sentence)
PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE (I may speak)
IMPERFECT SUBJUNCTIVE (I might speak)
FUTURE SUBJUNCTIVE (if I were to speak/if I would speak/if I should speak/if I may speak/if I might speak)

SUBJUNCTIVE MOOD (COMPOUND)
